“…I know you’ve explained this before…but can they see the sites you visit?”

The young, brunette boy looked on discouragingly over his friend’s shoulder, waiting for the door to his dimly-lit bedroom to be kicked down by FBI agents. The slightly older, blond-haired one stopped clicking for a brief moment to make eye contact with the other. “I’m connected through a VPN. It’s honestly not that big of a deal anyway,” he said, returning to his focused search.

“Dude, I just don’t understand why you’re so interested in this stuff. Can’t you just…I don’t know..smoke weed like a normal teenager?”

“Weed doesn’t do the same thing…unless you smoke a lot…even then, it’s not the same.”

Shaun was perusing a forum full of coded language and vague instructions. He had found the link from an online video channel he had stumbled upon. His friend, Dale, paced nervously behind him, checking in periodically to make sure the green status symbol of the VPN was still active.

It was a cloudy day in late Winter and Shaun was trying to figure out how to acquire psychoactive substances…namely, Dimethyltryptamine…or DMT as it’s more commonly referred to. He had heard that this particular compound was the most stunning of the options available with a relatively low time commitment. Shaun had been working at the movie theater full-time, taking classes at the local community college, so he didn’t have ample time to dedicate to an eight to twelve hour psychedelic trip.

“You never answered my question…” Dale resumed, taking a seat at the edge of his bed, “…and why are we doing this on my computer?!”

“My parents have been particularly nosy lately. I woke up late the other night ‘cause my mom was sitting at my computer, trying to guess my password.”

“Seriously? That’s super sketch…”

“Yeah, it scared the shit out of me. Like, I don’t have anything to hide, but why would she think that’s ok?”

“I mean” Dale mumbled, “you are looking for drugs on the internet…”
